One day trip between the art towns of Romagna

Visit to Ravenna, the last capital of the Western Roman Empire (402 ad.): The visit, which will last about 2, 30-3 hours, will all be by foot in the pedestrian old town, and includes the Church of S. Vitale with the well-known mosaics depicting the Byzantine Emperor Giustiniano and his wife Teodora, the magnificent Mausoleom of Galla Placidia. The visit will be completed by a pleasant walk in the pedestrian old town, with the Tomb of Dante and the beautiful and the Basilica of Sant’ Apollinare Nuovo, the palace chapel of Theodoric, king of the Ostrogoth. LUNCH in an agritourism with typical menu of Romagna. In the afternoon, visit to MONDAINO, the last medieval hamlet of the Signoria Malatesta. Here we will stroll through the hold town, from the famous “pan” square, to the gorgeous Church of San Michele, to the “Porta di Sotto”, the gateway of the town. Here we will find the Mulino delle Fosse (literally pits mill), an enchanting place were art, flavors and poetry meets in the magic frame of an ancient Jesuit mill; that’s the place where the famous Formaggio di Fossa (pit cheese) is produced and the venue of Center of Dantesque Studies. We will learn the techniques of the placement and the removal into the pits and obviously the tasting while listening the verses of Dante Alighieri!!
At the end return to the hotel.

Montefeltro

Visit to Urbino, the renaissance capital, a World Heritage Site: The symbol of the town is the Palazzo Ducale, the residence of the Dukes of Montefeltro, which hosts the Pinacoteca Regionale delle Marche, defined by Castiglione “A town-shaped palace”. The greatest men of culture, art, music and warfare were guests of Federico da Montefeltro, the man who managed to combine the intellect and the emotions. In his palace, we can admire the masterpieces of Piero della Francesca, Paolo Uccello, Luciano Laurana, Raffaello Sanzio, the Studiolo of Federico and so on… Hometown of one of the best-known artists of the Renaissance (Raffaello) still preserves the museum-town. Transfer to petting zoo in Pieve del Colle, near Urbania, for LUNCH in a agritourism with Montefeltro menu, that includes only typical bio products. After lunch educational visit to the farm: history, history of the the farmhouse and of the Parish. Visit to the fields that surrounds the plot, to the trufficulture and to the Museum of Agriculture. A stop to the Balcony of Piero della Francesca, an area from which we will admire the landscape of the picture “I trionfi” from the sight of the artist. In late afternoon, return to the hotel.
