Tour… from the Middle Age to the Renaissance through the Castles of Romagna

1°DAY
Arrival and accommodation in the reserved rooms. Free time, DINNER in the hotel, free evening and overnight.

2°DAY
Breakfast in the chosen hotel. Departure to SANTARCANGELO DI ROMAGNA, one of the best-preserved and living villages of the area, perched on the Colle di Giove (Hill of Jupiter). Stroll in the nice hold town of the medieval hamlet, where the famous Arco Ganganelli rises up; it was built in honor of Pope Clemente XIV, rich of towers, bastions, gateway and palaces, to the majestic Rocca Malatestiana. Visit to the mysterious tuff stone caves, labyrinth of ancient caverns dug in the clay, which in the past were used for many purposes: religious, strategic and so on. (Caves are not in depth, the path is not hard and no specific apparel is required, comfortable shoes are recommended). LUNCH in a typical trattoria, on the track of “Passator Cortese” with from farm to fork menu. After lunch, visit to the farmstead “La collina dei poeti”, in a suggestive frame, surrounded by rolling hills, you will visit the winery, producer of Sangiovese, Albana and extra virgin oil. Tasting of typical products, chance to buy them directly from the producer. Return to the hotel late in the afternoon, DINNER, free evening and overnight.

3° DAY
Breakfast in the hotel. Departure at 8, 30 to S. AGATA FELTRIA, enchanting hamlet, and venue of the annual National Fair of Fine White Truffle, held every Sunday of October. Here you can admire the Rocca Fregoso (the outside), the ancient Monastery San Girolamo with the exhibition of Rural Art and Culture, the Theater Mariani with the interesting and original exhibition of ancient music scores. LUNCH in a typical restaurant on a base of Montefeltro products. In the afternoon, free visit to Visit to Rimini, Renaissance capital and home of the Signoria Malatesta. Stroll through the magnificent old town, and the most important monuments of that time: Palazzo dell’ Arengo, Palazzo del Podestà, Castel Sismondo and Tempio Malatestiano. This is a true gem of the Italian Renaissance commissioned by Sigismondo Malatesta and designed by Leon Battista Alberti; inside you have the chance to admire the Crucifix of Giotto, the fresco of Piero della Francesca, the tombs of Sigismondo and his wife Isotta and a great painting of Vasari. Arrival to the hotel late in the afternoon, DINNER, free evening and overnight.

4°DAY
Breakfast in the chosen food hotel. Free morning for relax and shopping. Transfer for LUNCH to a agritourism on the hills of Malatesta, in the Conca Valley, with typical products. Visit to one of the most fascinating and renowned strongholds of the world, Gradara. This was scenery of the tragic love story between Paolo and Francesca. The fortress and the hamlet are one of the best-preserved medieval buildings of Italy and the double defensive wall make it one of the most impressive. In the Middle Age, it was the scene of the fights between the two Signorias of Malatesta and Montefeltro, who were always trying to conquer fortresses and hamlets. The Malatestas gave it its modern appearance, by building the fortress and the walls between 1200 and 1300 over an earlier fortified tower of 1100. However, their domain ended in 1463 when Federico da Montefeltro conquered the hamlet with the papal army. Return to the hotel late in the afternoon. DINNER and overnight.

5° DAY
Breakfast in the hotel. Departure for a small Food&Wine Tour to the discovery of Conca Valley. MONDAINO the last medieval hamlet of the Signoria Malatesta, here we will stroll through the hold town, from the famous “pan” square, to the gorgeous Church of San Michele, to the “Porta di Sotto”, the gateway of the town. Here we will find the Mulino delle Fosse (literally pits mill), an enchanting place were art, flavors and poetry meets in the magic frame of an ancient Jesuit mill; that’s the place where the famous Formaggio di Fossa (pit cheese) is produced and the venue of Center of Dantesque Studies. We will learn the techniques of the placement and the removal into the pits and obviously the tasting while listening the verses of Dante Alighieri!! Move on to MONTEGRIDOLFO, a perfect example of a Malatesta village, for a walk through the elegant alleys of the small hamlet. Stop at the olive mill Renzi, which was prized several times by the Region Emilia Romagna for the organoleptic characteristics of its oil. Tasting of extra virgin olive oil and other typical products. .LUNCH in a typical agritourism. Free time in the afternoon and return.
